Are your dates getting repetitive? We have a solution for you!
A couple’s massage is the perfect date because it not only promotes relationship-building, but it also provides the opportunity for couples to share the perks that massage therapy has to offer.
Unfortunately, Valentine’s Day is looking a bit different this year as we continue to follow all government directives during COVID-19. For everyone’s ensured safety, DCompress will be closed this year during San Diego’s stay at home order. However, as part of our dedication to helping our customers provide the gift of massage for their loved ones, we will be providing complementary bookings once our doors re-open (including all postponed couple’s massage services)!
Until then, we hope you enjoy this article. We’ll walk you through everything you need to know about a couple’s massage and highlight some of the perks you can expect to experience (once we’re able to welcome you back, of course).
What Is a Couple’s Massage?
A couple’s massage isn’t like any typical massage service. You and your loved one can experience the benefits of massage therapy together in the same room, at the same time, but on separate tables with your own therapist.
However, just because you’re getting the treatment together, doesn’t mean you need to get the exact same massage techniques.
Your massage treatments are completely customizable to cater to your individual needs!
The Benefits Of a Couples Massage
Enjoy Quality Time Together
Booking a massage together is an excellent way to bond with your partner and unplug from the outside world.
You won’t be talking during your massage treatments, but it’s nice to enjoy a quiet and relaxing activity together.
Oftentimes, a couples massage appointment is someone’s first introduction to the world of massage. It’s a great way to try something new because you don’t have to go through it alone.
Relieve Stress and Anxiety
We carry a lot of tension in our muscles when we’re stressed, which can spill into other areas of life as well. This ultimately affects our health and relationships.
Prolonged stress can make even the nicest people irritable and snappy, hurting the relationships with the closest people in your life.
Massage therapy relieves muscle tension, improves blood circulation, lymphatic drainage, and promotes feel-good hormones to relieve stress.
When you’ve managed your stress well, you become a better version of yourself and a better partner.
Remember those feel-good hormones we talked about?
Massage therapy releases oxytocin, otherwise known as the “love hormone.” We get a spike in oxytocin levels from hugging and even during non-sexual touch. Experiencing this rise of oxytocin levels with another person increases trust, empathy, and positive communication.
If a couple’s massage is new to both of you, sharing a new experience also helps form stronger connections and intimacy.
What To Expect at a Couple’s Massage
You and your partner will get set up in a private room on your own massage beds.
You will each have a massage therapist working with you, and they may ask you questions about areas of tension you’d like to work on, past injuries, surgeries, or other health conditions to be mindful of.
The massage therapists will leave the room and allow you to get comfortable. You can remove as much clothing as you feel comfortable with and lay covered under the towel until the therapists arrive.
Your therapist will work with you to find a pressure you feel is comfortable, and you and your partner can enjoy the benefits of massage together quietly.
Safety During COVID-19
Although we are currently closed, we invite you to experience a couples spa package when we officially re-open. Don’t forget to mention this blog to receive $20 off your massage services!
Until then, our team at DCompress Downtown wishes all couples the happiest of Valentine’s Day. We can’t wait to see you once the time is right!
